My Favorite Photograph of 2011

Each and every year I take photographs. There are photographs each and every year that I take and can’t believe that I actually took.

This year I have two photographs. It is of the same subject. And during the same session.

The cool thing about the session was that I just wanted to shoot. I just wanted to photograph a friend. I just was interested in the subject. I didn’t get too many moments like that last year. This year was interesting joggling the business and creativity of photography. It was hard. Just hard. I never knew how hard it was without going through it. I’m glad that I did. Business is hard as shit. It really is. Not many people can do it. I am still figuring out if I can do it myself, we shall see.

Back to the images. Rob had a couple of ideas about the shoot. He showed me a couple of images of Bob Marley and I knew that I wanted to do some images of my own also. So, Rob came in. Alittle nervous and didn’t know what to expect, so my wife gave him a cocktail and he got comfortable instantly.

I Finally Got Him: The Asian Homeless Guy

You know, I’ve been trying to get this guy for a very long time. But, it just happened.

I know that I’m stereotyping, but I’m sure if you saw him jumping from one location to the next all over downtown you would have thought the same.

But as I was observing for years, he didn’t look approachable. He kept to himself, was talking to himself, was scratching his back constantly and was sleeping in any place and in any position imaginable. I never saw him talking to anybody, but figured that he couldn’t hold a conversation.

But, you know, I still wanted a photograph of him. I needed that for my collection of downtown photographs. I didn’t know how I was going to get the photograph, but always knew that when the time came I  was going to take it.

The Sea and Sun Trip: The Extended Version

Note: This trip was done two weeks ago on an early Saturday morning. It has taken me so long to edit the images and still not done. These are just a few of my top 60.

It just sounded like a good idea. The thought of rising before everyone, listening to music that had no voices and going to a place I had no idea of where I was going, was magical.

The only thing I was thinking about was missing the moment. Missing the light and being haunted by the regrets of not doing this for me.
