Update of Goals from the last month

I have begun my long 4-day work week. I chose Monday’s off, because I always hated preparing for work on Sunday’s and I will always have a 3-day weekend. This off-day will be spent by more writing, resting, and figuring out what I want to do as a second monetary means of surviving. I’ll fill yall in,  of what I”ll learn from this experience. I was able to complete some goals that I set at the end of last month before I started my Monday’s off.

Here is a breakdown of what all got accomplish and what didn’t:

Novel writing – I didn’t get to my goal of 100 pages, but I did get to a point of significant measures. I have got the main character active (he better be active, the story is centered around him) and at the point I’m at now will help me go back and finish the beginning part of the novel. I will soon perform the 24 hours of writing, once I get back from my trip. I don’t know what I will be writing, but should be a fun experience trying.

Business Idea – Figured out that I don’t have the time, money, and more importantly, dedication to recycle paper for profit. So, I am back to the drawing board of figuring out what I want to do, more on the basis of my passions, rather than something I am looking at as an exit strategy.

Goals for the Rest of the Month…

In a couple of weeks I will be partaking in a shorten work-week schedule. I will get an extra day off, in return I will have to work 4 10-hour work days. It will take me sometime to get used to the longer days, but no time at all to get used to doing more writing, sleeping, working on my side business, or whatever with the off day. So, I have given myself another couple of crazy goals to do before this schedule kicks in at the beginning of next month.

Goals-

  • A) Reach 100 pages in novel.
  • B) Write 2 more essays for my portfolio.
  • C) Finish first short story.
  • D) Get Finances in order.
  • E) Find the money source of my side business.
  • F) Push girlfriend in the direction she wants to go in.
  • G) Develop way to learn words.

New Year Goal Phrase for the Year: “When Opportunity Meets Preparation”

The new year has begun. I am so excited for it and like always expect great things from me. So far I have started the year off right. I actually got started a month before to get me ready for what I plan to do from now to the rest of the year. The reason why I am writing this post is because of this sports radio talk show host from ESPN, Colin Cowherd, who I listen to on a regular basis, mentioned why people who get what they want out of life isn’t so much luck, but preparation. I also heard about this concept of luck a couple months back while listening to Tavis Smiley interviewing Will Smith when his movie, I Am Legend, was coming out. Will Smith talked about how he doesn’t believe anyone can out perform him in his career and in life in general. Mr. Smith also mentioned that one of his favorite novels, The Alchemist, explains this very point of destiny and preparing for it (great book!). When opportunity meets preparation…blah blah blah…when opportunity meets preparation. I heard this very phrase so many times, but didn’t act on it or where to start. I also wrote this phrase on my ipod and recently pulled the case out and there it was: “When Opportunity meets preparation”.

So when I sat down yesterday for New Year’s dinner with my girlfriend and some of her family we were going around the table saying what our New Year Resolution will be. Everybody said what theirs were and I said that I want to write every single day. I don’t know fully how this is going to happen, but I know that I will make it a point to do.

For the Year 2009 my phrase will be, “When Opportunity Meets Preparation”.

There are a couple of things that I have planned for the year. They are to travel with my girlfriend, spend more time with friends, read more books, and become a writer. My personal goal is to become a writer. I am going to accomplish this by; read books on grammar, attend seminars, proof-read my work, learn new words to add to my vocabulary, talk to fellow writers and editors, and simply write. I will apply for magazine freelancing gigs, write in this blog, write about my thoughts and dreams, write short stories, editorials, random sayings and coining phrases that I think of, write a novel, and whatever else that deals with writing. I know that my preparation (also add dedication) and opportunities will help me to reach my goal and extend my life long dream of becoming a doer and have all of the freedom to touch other people’s lives and people touch my life.
