Career is a challenge for me to accept, because it is used so many times to only someone’s occupation. Here are the definitions from dictionary.com on career:
-
- A chosen pursuit; a profession or occupation.
- The general course or progression of one’s working life or one’s professional achievements: an officer with a distinguished career; a teacher in the midst of a long career.
- A path or course, as of the sun through the heavens.
- Speed: “My hasting days fly on with full career” (John Milton).
9.26/10 people use career to define one’s working life and that mentality or paradigm has to change. There is more to life then the perceived definition of “career”. Many people choose to define their profession as the only thing that they know in life, however I truely believe that people have a more passion for other aspects of their lives. Don’t get me wrong, someone can truely have a skill for the job, but if it is only done to help yourself than it is pointless. So the next time someone ask me how my career is going I am going to tell them that “my mission in life is going great and that I will never rest to helping others achieve their full potentional out of life”.
My definition of a career: “Taking life by the horns and not letting anyone come in my way to achieving my biggest purpose (vague, yes, but it is up to the individual) in life.
