Why Business Isn’t for Everyone.

This photograph is actually of a photo shoot I did yesterday of a neighbor of mine. I went into his house and was extremely amazed at the way he decorated it and found out that he also draws. This was a personal project of mine that I wanted to do and the cool thing is that I will be able to use the photographs in my marketing campaign and photography business website.

It is hard to figure out what I’m thinking when I’m going to do a photo shoot. I feel that I’m wasting time and clueless and wanting everything to be perfect. But the amount of thinking and the way I know how to use the camera helps me to realize what I’m working with. I learn something on all of these photo shoots and glad that I’m pushing myself out of my comfort level. I’ll have this series of photographs up and some of my brother at the end of this week.

I knew for a long time that business was for me. I never thought of working 40 plus years under somebody and them telling me what to do. I have learned plenty from that style of teaching and know that it will help me when I take the actual walk out into the field of self-employment. But what I’m realizing now is that running a business is simply not for everyone and for the majority of the people of the world. Besides, we can’t have all these chiefs and not enough indians.

Why Isn’t Business for Everyone?

The shit is hard. You have to be a self-starter. And more than anything you have to be a lover and doer of management. Business is more than having a great idea, actually having a shitty business idea can work and be extremely profitable. There are long hours, most of the time, especially in the beginning, you have to make twice or more than what you made in the past to get the salary that you had at your full-time job. Everything has to be taken care of and it is mostly on you, especially in the beginning. That is too much stress that people don’t want to take. It is easy as hell to just wake up, put some clothes on, drive to work and do your assignment, go to lunch, talk to your co-workers and go home afterwards. You don’t have to worry about being accountable for your taxes, once you feel out the tax form you are pretty much waiting for your tax money. Everything is set up and easy and for the most part if you find a job that you like you can do it for a very long time.

So, when I see people who hate their jobs and no hope in the world, I know now that they just haven’t found what they are looking for in life on two levels. The first one is an adequate career that they can simply go to a job and punch in and out. The other one is finding a passion that they think about routinely and actively doing. Once those two things are worked out, then their life will be good.

Again, this isn’t a knock on people, it is them actually realizing what they want to do with their lives. Because being a businessman doesn’t mean you will be doing what you love to do all the time, most of the business is about business and not of the actual thing that brought you to start a business. That is a realization that I’m having now and still feel and want this more than anything. Not only will I have a chance to do what I love more, it is about the lifestyle I want to live for the rest of my life. I feel like i’m in jail when I’m at work and just ready to do more for myself. That’s me, some more people like me and even people who hate their jobs feel that way.

What’s the Solution in Hating a Job and Not Knowing where to go?

The solution is simple, but hard to implement. Find what you can stand or even find meaning in life in a career. After that is done what should happen next is that you wouldn’t mind waking up every morning to go to work. You will like what you are doing and find value in what you are doing. That is one step and should be the first one figured out. The second one is finding passion in something about life. It can be anything, but the thing to remember is that it can’t be about family or friends. The passion has to be completely selfish. The reason why I say this is because we love and adore our families first and then our friends. We will do anything for them. But we have to figure out what is it that we will do for ourselves. We have to find meaning in the world on a level that we can’t stop thinking about and doing.

Once the career and passion are figured out, life should be great  and you not hating the world.
